Choosing an HVAC Company – 5 of the top questions to ask!

Changing your heating and cooling system? Whether your current system is not working or you are looking to upgrade to better technology and efficiency, it is a big investment and with so many heating and cooling companies out there it can be confusing and a little overwhelming to know what company to go with. At Andy Lewis Heating and Air Conditioning we feel it is important to help educate our current and potential customers so you can feel comfortable and confident in making the best decisions for your home and family. So, when it comes to picking your HVAC company where should you start? Do your research and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Most heating and air companies have websites today and make starting your research very easy. Here are five important questions to look into and why.

Are they licensed and insured to work in my city, county and state?

This is very important because in order for them to pull the proper permits the company you choose needs to be licensed in your state and city or county. Insuring the HVAC company is insured protects you, the homeowner, from any possible damages during the installation process. Your HVAC system is an intricate machine that with the duct work system runs throughout different parts of your home and although the installers always try to be as careful as possible, unfortunately, when changing out a system with so many components there is always a chance for unforeseen complications and damage. If you are not sure if the company you are considering is licensed and insured, ask to see a copy of their license and their certificate of insurance. Confirming these are in place will help give you piece of mind during the installation process.

Andy Lewis Heating & Air Conditioning is licensed and insured in both North Carolina and South Carolina as well as Cabarrus County, Catawba County, City of Gastonia, City of Mount Holly, Iredell County, Mecklenburg County, Town of Waxhaw, Union County, City of Rock Hill, City of Tega Cay, City of York, Town of Clover, and the Town of Fort Mill just to name a few.

How long have they been in business?

You want to pick a company that has been in operation for a good period of time. Picking an established company that has been around for some time helps insure they will still be around to uphold the warranty for the life of your new system.

Andy Lewis Heating & Air has been serving the charlotte and surrounding areas for 24 years and with about 100 employees, we are here to help with all your heating and cooling questions and needs throughout the installation and life of you HVAC system.

Do they take out and handle all of the necessary permits?

This is another very important action that helps protect you as the homeowner.  Depending on what type of work you are getting done will determine the types of permits your job needs. Your HVAC team are the experts and should handle this for you. In addition to insuring the correct permits are issued, having your project permitted allows for someone outside the installation company to inspect the job, protecting the homeowner. The inspector will check your system, duct work and electrical, if required, making sure your HVAC system is installed per county and state codes as necessary.

Andy Lewis permits all of their installation jobs big or small. We also handle the whole permitting process for you from getting the permit issued to scheduling the final inspection with the city, county or state.

Will they provide a free, no obligation estimate?

You should never have to pay a fee for your replacement quote and they should be able to provide you with different options and brands for your home.

At Andy Lewis Heating & Air, not only will we give you a free estimate, you will work with one of our comfort consultants to determine the right options for your family and home. The Andy Lewis team understands that what works for one person or family is not necessarily the right answer for others. Your comfort consultant will work with you to learn your families needs and provide you with different options based on those needs and your budget. Working together they will answer any questions you have regarding the options and systems quoted so you feel confident you are making the right choice for your family and home, whether your staying in your current home for three years or 30 years.

Do they have a service department and do they offer a maintenance plan to maintain and protect your new system after the installation is complete?

The company that you choose to install your new heating and cooling system should be the company you go to for service issues and regular service maintenance. Since they installed your system, they will have a complete history of your unit including the warranty information, system compatibility and requirements, as well as any continued work preformed after the installation process. Having a service agreement will help keep your manufacture warranty valid, as many require regular maintenance to be maintained on the equipment.

Andy Lewis Heating & Air conditioning not only has a full-service department, that is available 24 / 7 and offers a service agreement called, The Andyman Preventative Maintenance Plan, if you purchase a new HVAC system, we will do a complimentary six month maintenance check.
